Kaffeine will not start (Slackware 13.37, KDE 4.5)

I have recently upgraded three PCs from Slackware 13.1 (KDE 4.4.3) to Slackware 13.37 (KDE 4.5.5). Kaffeine was running on all three PCs previously and now runs fine on two of them, but not on #3. The third PC has the same video driver (nvidia proprietary binary) as one of the others.

The significant difference might be that the PC on which kaffeine will not start also has a TV card (which is precisely why I want to get kaffeine going on it).

When I try to run kaffeine from the command line I get no output whatsoever. I have to control-C to get a prompt again.

When I run kaffeine --version I see :
Qt: 4.7.0
KDE Development Platform: 4.5.5 (KDE 4.5.5)
Kaffeine: 1.1

Anything obvious I should be trying ?
