Hi,

My distribution is Kubuntu Gutsy.

When I want to watch an embedded video (in a web page; for example .wmv) with firefox, the video window remain blank.
For example, this video isn't read and it appears "click to download the plugin":

http://www.soireefja.be/video-foot2007.html or one of the videos on this website: http://www.rtltvi.be/page/une-emission-presentee-par-sabrina-jacobs-et-consacree-a-la-maison-sur-rtl-tvi/1583.aspx

Kaffeine, kaffeine-mozilla, kaffeine-xine, libxine1-ffmpeg are installed.
Playing videos such as .wmv and others works in local (on my HD).
Then I think it's not a problem of drivers?

Does somebody know the solution to make it working?

Thanks for your answers.

It seems that it is an issue of firefox/iceweasel and the way how the vidoe is put into the webpage.

The mentioned site uses the deprecated and not officially standardized embed html element with only the src attribute specified. Firefox is probably able to handle it only if the file mime-type or application (in this case some ID of windows media player) is specified.

If so, the kaffeine plugin to mozila is able to play wmv, for example
this (where it is embedded using another technique) starts kaffeine.

Hello,

Thanks for your reactions.
As kaffeine doesn't currently satisfy my "needs" I have chosen Mplayer.
Mplayer can read the embedded movies I can't read with kaffeine.

If anybody knows a solution to make kaffeine reading these movies, let us know it....

If you use the add-on MediaPlayerConnectivity (addons.mozilla.org
you'll be able to set wmv to open Kaffeine. I use it and watched each of the videos you linked to in Kaffeine.
