Does it make any progress in the scan at all?
I recently scrubbed my machine of Fedora 8 and installed Fedora 9 and then Kaffeine 0.8.7, and I have a similar problem.
The scan gets about halfway done and then just hangs and must be "Force Quit".
Since I started kaffeine from the command line, I can see this output:

For ATSC scanning, email "Devin Heitmueller" <devin.heitmueller_AT_gmail.com>
| Quote: | Hello various list members,
I was responsible for the ATSC scanning support provided for this release.
If anyone has any problems, or sees any inconsistency between the
results reported by Kaffeine's ATSC scanning and the dvb-apps scan
utility, please feel free to email me and I will be happy to
investigate. Since this functionality has had limited testing, its
possible that there are edge cases that I did not encounter in my
environment (New York City).
Thanks, |

If it really is hung, what we probably need to get a gdb backtrace of all the running threads. The ATSC parser might be caught in some sort of infinite loop.
Get kaffeine into a hung state
gdb /usr/local/bin/kaffeine <pid_of_kaffeine>
thread apply all bt
Then email me the output.

| Sorry for the delay. I will try out the debugger and post the results. |
